tacos de fideo seco in Austin?

I've been looking for a place that sells these Mexican street tacos. They are a corn tortilla stuffed with fideo pasta with a tomato based sauce and cheese or crema? I'd gladly accept a recipe if there isn't a place to buy them.

  1. one of my co-workers brings in the breakfast taco version of this (ie, with eggs) but he isn't here to ask.
he's mexican, and lives in deep south austin, so it's probably a mom and pop place somewhere nearby.

okay, as promised (sorry for the delay).

there are 3 reviews on yelp, all positive, for whatever that's worth.
and if you look at the pictures, you can see fideo and bean as one of the taco options.

when i have had the fideo breakfast tacos, the fideo has been mixed with some kind of seasoned tomato sauce-- maybe a little salsa?
          whatever it is, it's tasty.

Yes, the tomato sauce is what I remember. Thanks! I'll get over there.

I'm curious if the fideo you are referring to might be the fideo I grew up eating in El Paso? Lupe, who worked for us, would take fideo noodles and brown them in oil, once brown she would add broth, beef is what I use now, cumin, pepper flakes, salt and pepper, jalapenos, chopped onions, and maybe a can of rotel tomatos, and let it all simmer until the noodles were soft and delicious. We ate bowls full with beens or just by itself, never in a taco. It is still one of my favorite things to eat.

Well, "seco" would be a decent description of what your describing. I have some fideo - maybe I'll make this tonight!

I don't know, but it sounds great. I think I'll make some.

Have driven past Taqueria Morelos many times on the way to Lockhart (it's a little stone bldg just south of 71, if I'm correct) but have never stopped. I'll have to rectify that soon.

Crap - there were no fideo(s) in my cupboard. I went to Sonic and got a Chicago Dog instead.
