Dining on The Big Island of Hawaii

We are just getting ready to leave the Big Island for Maui and thought I'd share a few great spots with anyone planning a vacation.

No problems finding great food here.I would highly recommend a place for lunch called the Coffee Shack in Kealakekua which is south of Kona on the Mamalahoa Highway. We were travelling to see the Captain Cook monument and happened upon a very busy parking lot!!Stopped in and had the best pizza I have ever tasted-(crust was phenomenal)They are located on a hill overlooking the ocean and everything served was delicious.

In the same neck of the woods was a wonderful little Italian restaurant called MI's. Four of us had different entrees and all were very happy with our meals.(I still think that mine was the best-veal piccata-delicious!)The chef (co-owner with the manager, his wife)visited his patrons and shared the history of this little gem while preparing meals.Reservations are a must as there are only ten or twelve tables and I can't imagine them not being full every night.

We ventured north to Hawi and tried sushi at Sushi Rock. They serve some very unique dishes here.We really enjoyed everything we tasted and would love to have had the opportunity to return.
The Bamboo House was located in the same little town and we had a wonderful lunch.Try the pork ribs!

Browns Beach House at the Fairmont was a real treat.Expensive but really first class.Service was amazing and the meal equally great. If you are looking for a very special evening, this is the place to go.

The KPC restaurant in the Hilton complex at Waikoloa has wonderful ambiance and offers a great dining experience.Service is top notch and if you can get an outside table, the sunsets are gorgeous. The truffle fries are a must, but should be shared as the portions are generous. We had delicious fresh fish here, perfectly prepared.

We also had memorable meals at Bite Me(a little open air restaurant located right on the wharf between the airport and Kona),Sensai in the Queensland Shopping Area and Cafe Ono near the volcano park.

I am sure that there are many more terrific places to enjoy but these are a few that we found and would return to enjoy again.Bon Appetite!!!
