cool place for coffee near the Pleasure Chest (Gr. Village)?

I'm posting this message is for a friend, I swear. She is supposed to meet her new boyfriend for coffee tomorrow morning at 9:30, before they shop at The Pleasure Chest (157 7th Ave. South, near Perry/Waverly'Charles). I know it's kind of early for a romance, but she would really love to know of any interesting cafes, i.e. not just Starbucks, open nearby in the morning.

      Add Grey Dog, Roasting Plant, and Bosie Tea Parlor to the list.

      Kathryn, do you know if Jeffrey's is still doing coffee since their "remodel" a few weeks ago? I know they got rid of much of the "grocery" but I haven't been in for coffee recently.

        they dont have a full espresso bar. i think they still have cafe offerings early in the morning though.

        Morandi is across the street.
        Down the block, there's a street party on Greenwich Ave starting at 10:30am in front of Tea and Sympathy, something about a wedding.

            jeez...stay classy.

            morandi has a decent breakfast. im also a huge fan of elephant and castle which is 2 blocks away.

              This post gets points for originality...

              I was going to suggest "Extra Virgin" to fit in with the theme, but apparently they only open at 11.

              Tartine is close by, but they don't open til 10... Tell your "friend' good luck and enjoy!

                Rocco's on 243 Bleecker is an old-fashioned, long-standing pastry shop down there. It's not a new-school coffee shop but it has a neat history and good coffees.
