Help for Mother's Day... Orange County. Something with a view?

We are looking to take my mother-in-law to a nice restaurant for Mother's day Brunch.
I have 2 kids so we need something that has a kid friendly menu but also offers nice adult brunch. We would love some place with a nice view if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Define view. Orange Hill Restaurant and the Orange County Mining Company have views looking across Orange toward Anaheim. A nice city view.

Then you can go out to the Harbor and try any of the seafood places there: Rusty Pelecin, Joe's, Charthouse, The Cannery...

In Laguna you can get the ocean view minus the harbor, so you have Las Brisas, Coyote Grill (Peek-a-boo view), The Cottage (peek-a-boo), and all sorts of other places up and down PCH.

I can't imagine any of these places not doing special menus for Mother's Day. And that does not even get into the Northers and Southern coastal sections.

I was thinking about Orange County Mining Company but the food reviews I've read haven't been very good. What are your thoughts?

I have not been. I actually live just over the hill from there. Orange Hill is just above it and is more expensive. Frankly, I expect it to be OK. I would not expect great food, just standard buffet items. I went to Orange Hill once and was so underwhelmed I never went back. I would go back for cocktails on the patio there, but I would not spend the money for food. Orange Co Mining seems like a lower risk because it is less money.

If I the reservations were available (and I just checked Open Table, so I don't think they are), I would go to Las Brisas in Laguna. It is not a buffet, but I like the brunch items and the view of the cove and main beach is lovely, and then you can walk around Laguna afterward.

    2. Consider the Beachcomber in Crystal Cove, Newport Beach. It is right on the beach...nothing between you and the sand and ocean! Food is very good, super casual atmosphere, kids will love it. Only problem is, I don't know if they'll take reservations. Otherwise it would be great fun, and the view cannot be beat!
