China Town on Saturday

graemejw Apr 27, 2011 08:43 AM

We are in Calgary this Saturday for the Make It Market - would like to take the kids for lunch in China Town, where should we go? Not fussy about the style of food, they're well educated, adventurous eaters - but looking for something good, kid friendly (ie not fine dining) & fun!

Chinese Cultural Centre Restaurant - basement level of the Chinese Cultural Centre. Very casual, fresh food and good value. Definately kid friendly. It is not one of those cramp hole in the wall type - not that there is anything wrong with that, just that you do have children so lots of room is ideal.

We like Regency Palace for dim sum. It is HUGE so there is almost never a wait. Plus they have a selection of dim sum that is on steam tables instead of carts only. Grabbing a few items from there helps when the kids are ravenous & not so thrilled with waiting for the carts.

I don't know if Try Again is open on Saturday, but if it is, I think the kids will love the "bubble tea" fruit smoothies. My favourite is anything with coconut, and coconut or lychee jelly. Best thing about Try Again is that they use real fruit, instead of the mixes like many other places.

Try Again is in the basement of the HSBC building (Google Streetview): http://ow.ly/4IBT3
