Some wonderful, some disappointing.

A small, cozy, romantic little spot. Service was pleasant and helpful, if a little unpracticed. Put off my plan, the quite large online menu was not there, a very short list of entrees, missing elements of my plan.

Sweetbreads appetizer was excellent, as were the mussels and cream sauce. Absent our planned selection we opted for 3 "small plates" and an entree (the Salad Nicoise). The 3rd appetizer got mixed reviews (me, mundane, she, tasty). The salad yielded agreement, on the low side of mediocre. Wine list was very good.

All in all a bit disappointing given our expectations.

    2. Its a riddle. I guess Bistro at Maison de Ville, an excellent restaurant by any measure, especially suited to unplanned visits.

        I'm going with Cafe Degas.

That's a good guess..I have been closeted with my crystal ball, trying to get in touch with The Infinite and otherwise busy in prayer and sacrifice trying to figure it out. I am on the point of hiring a seminary student to assist in prayers. The salad nicoise made me think of a place I have not been to yet--what IS the name of that spot---uptown behind Domincan..somewhere back in there. But I don't recall anyone mentioned sweetbreads there so I am leaning in your direction here. Couldn't fathom a guess as to what is on at Maison de Ville these days.

Tartine is the place in the Black Pearl, but I don't think that's what the OP's referring to.

That's it...thanks. You're right, though, that can't be the place.

yeah, Tartine is a treat. really liked their stuff. but they could work on the lighting a bit...

        2. I am going to guess the Flaming Torch near Jefferson and Magazine. Matches the description and has all of the items listed on the menu along with an extensive wine list.
