Favorite Soondubu (soon tofu)?

I am addicted to Korean food lately. I love it and I don't eat chicken, pork, beef, etc. Fish only. one dish i'm always craving is soondubu. my last experience at BCD tofu house was bland. I'd only been there once before and thought it was good, but I won't be back. I loved beverly soon tofu, and i heard the place across the street from it is great. I love the soondubu at Western Doma Noodle (beverly soon tofu quality) and Genwa which i like just fine mostly because it's walkable for me. any other places make amazing soondubu that i need to check out? I love Parks BBQ but there are other things on the menu i'd rather get than that, unless it's truly special there. I also love soot bull jeep, but same thing. Would rather have some shrimp and eel there, unless i hear it's a must try. thanks for suggestions.

  1. And i'm not limited to Koreatown- anything in Pasadena, Glendale, etc works fine for me as well.

    1. Umm ... you kinda already nailed it in your list, I think! I love Beverly Soon Tofu. And several others on your list are great too.

i figure with all of the korean places in LA there has got to be more soodubu hidden gems!!! would love to find more; though i'm happy with the places i have at my disposal. i just love trying out new spots.

      2. I've recently become a convert to Beverly after years of being a So Kong Dong devotee. Both are very good, but to me, good soondubu really calls for beer (even if it's only Hite or OB), and SKD doesn't do beer. I really like the spicy raw crab banchan at SKD, though.

        1. I just want to throw Mapo on 6th into the mix. Its definitely my favorite soondubu and really tastes like a class above Beverly soon or so kong dong.
Also, I know you're only looking for soon tofu, but the braised black cod at Mapo is also amazing, so creamy and buttery but with a mildly spicy red sauce.
I know its been a couple of months, but have you found any other places that you've really liked?

hi! no, i haven't found a new spot and thank you for the recommendation! i LOVE black cod!

          2. Beverly Soon Tofu was great before, but after the yelp effect, the quality had gone down, but still better than anything you can get in the west side. Will try mapo next time.
