Hello,
I am visiting France in the next few weeks and I was wondering if there is an equivalent to the American chains Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, or Crate and Barrel. I would like to do some shopping in Paris and it would be nice to have a head start on where to go.

Thank you,

The equivalent would be Kitchen Bazar, I suppose: not particularly interesting. For cookware, Dehilletin is still the first place to go. For fancy cookware, visit Au Bon Marché.

There is only one problem with E. Dehillerin, their cookware doesn't wear out. We still have racks full of stuff from "back in the day" times. With some practice, whole meals can be prepared tableside using only alcohol burners and E. Dehillerin copperware..

E dehillerin is a wonderful alternative to Sur la Yable, C&B, etc. The presentation is shockingly old school, but surprisingly effective. The quality is great and there really are no brands -- just dehillerin. Put your tryst in them and you'll be thrilled.

Nearby, there are two other stores of note (both ar on David Lebovitz's website). Mora has great baking supplies. G. Detou has good ingredients, mostly for baking, at pretty good prices.

Go to the 3rd floor of the BHV (Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville) and you'll be happy.

In my opinion, there aren't real equivalents to those stores (W-S, SLT, C&B).

David Lebovitz has a great list with short descriptions on his website:

Are there some particular items you want to find, or do you just want to wander? It would be easier to suggest specific stores with more information from you.

Galleries Lafayette, has a wonderful food hall, like WS would like to have and across the street a kitchen dept that again WS would like to have.

Those chains can only hope of ever being like the housewares floor of BHV, Galeries Lafayette, or Dehillerin!
