NO! I don't want to participate in the CHOW survey!

Midlife Apr 26, 2011 11:42 AM

I just had to say 'no thanks' about five times during a very short session checking some posts from my recent threads page. Every time I came back to that page I got the same 'ad'.

I'm usually relatively patient, but this needs some mitigation.

I did the Chow survey the first time I encountered it. Apparently my input is incredibly useful, since I've seen that popup now about 10 times. Wheee!

        You asking 'bout MY cookies?????

Seriously, mine are not. Or at least other ads like that don't keep coming back once I say no.

No, although I do run CC Cleaner regularly. But not three or four times a day!

I haven't seen that floater since I started using AdBlock to get rid of the Facebook/twitter thingie. CH works fine otherwise. I surely recommend it. Doesn't kill all the ads (unless you want it to do so) and in all fairness suffer a few non-moving ads for the sake of Free sites, but those annoying ones like the survey get axed.

Did you have to do something special on AdBlock to get it to disappear the floater? I just reinstalled AdBlock Plus yesterday, and while it got rid of moving ads in hotmail, nytimes, and zap2it.com, I still see the Chowhound floater. I don't mind reading ads, but things that move are beyond annoying.

Not that I know of. I use Chrome and just followed the instructions. First time I used it was on the Facebook/twitter floater here and was impressed! Very easy to use, I liked the way I could just block out parts, like here.

Yikes! Users with cookies enabled should never see a survey invite more than once. We had the sampling rate set at 1%, so only a small percentage should have seen it at all.

Our research manager looked into the problem and didn't see anything wrong in the way the survey was set up. If cookies are turned off, we have no way to control how many times users will see the offer.

I have only seen it once and not since. Am I permitted to say whether I completed it or not?

Same here. And after having successfully blocked the damn thing once it's back again!! Please don't rename the elements in trying to fix this.

And, having re-blocked it 7 hours ago, it reappeared, again!

There should be an option to say I don't want to reply to this survey EVER as opposed to "not now"

Edited to add: I'm much more likely to respond to a survey that gives me the opt out option than one that threatens to come up again later.

Please, this survey popping up over and over is obnoxious. SOMEONE MAKE IT STOP!!!!!

Odd. I started this topic and I haven't seen the survey again since that first experience.

I got it about 10 times yesterday in a single session. I already answered it. I have cookies enabled.

                    Go. Away.

The first day it appeared I completed it and then it reappeared 6 or so times that day. Haven't seen it since.
