Manchester Restaurants near the University?

Hello, I will be at a conference at the university next month. I was hoping for some good restaurant suggestions in that vicity. Something appropriate for a casual business dinner. Thanks!

  1. There aren't really any good restaurants right round Manchester University (or around Man Met Uni either). However, Manchester Uni is under a mile away from Rushholme, and some of the restaurants there are good. It's also a mile away from the centre of town, and then you have access to a lot more places.

I'm not sure about the Whitworth museum's opening hours, but the cafe there is really good (lots of local and fresh ingredients made into tasty dishes) if you could swing a business lunch rather than dinner.

Zouk (on Chester St) is liked by a lot of people and is nearish to the University (nearer to Man Met) and definitely has more of a casual business dinner feel.

Red Chilli is pretty much opposite the University and produces good quality Szechuan food. In a similar vein, there's Chilli Cool and Red n Hot (in Chinatown) and Middle Kingdom (on Princess St).

In town, depending on how much you want to spend, there's Luso, El Rincon de Rafa, the Mark Addy (probably won't be able to get a table now that Jay Rayner's reviewed it) and others. Chorlton and Whalley Range (easily reachable by car and bus) have some great places, too, but might be a bit further afield than you're looking for.

Also on Chester Street is La Mei Zi, another good Szechuan Chinese place. Apart from that I can't think of anywhere else good in very close proximity to the University that Haverfoodie didn't mention already. It's really not far into town though.

I was at The Mark Addy yesterday as it happens. Got a table in the sun on the terrace, surprisingly it wasn't too busy! The food was very good.
