Avenues, Tru, Les Nomades, or Everest?

  • 5

It is my husband's 30th birthday. We have been to Alinea, L20, Trotters, Schwa, Spiaggia, and more. We have not been to any of the four above. Which would you suggest?

  1. It has been a little while since I have eaten at any of these so forgive me if things have changed but your not going to have a bad meal at any of them. I always liked the sheek decor of tru but overall food wise I would have to say the best meal I had out of those four was at Les Nomades.

    1. Of the four you've listed, the only one whose food I thought was not as good as the others was Les Nomades, which I thought was okay but just not particularly special or unusual. I've enjoyed all of the other three. Everest also has that great view looking out over the city; I suggest asking in advance for a table near a window.

If you're still having trouble deciding and you haven't already done so, I recommend looking at the menus on their websites to see if one sounds particularly appealing to you.

I agree. I think Les Nomades is the weakest of the four. If you liked Alinea and Schwa then you will like Avenues the most. I definitely do.

      2. I have not eaten at Everest, but it's at the top of my list for my next trip to Chicago. Of the other three I agree with nsxtasy and Chihab that Les Nomades is weaker, although I think it is a little closer to TRU and Avenues. Avenues has two tasting menus only (one is vegetarian) while at TRU you can order prix fixe or do a tasting. I really enjoyed my meals at TRU and Avenues and it's hard to pick a winner. The food and service were exceptional at both. Les Nomades was a much cosier restaurant with very good food and excellent service.

I pretty much agree with ChemWork. If it were my choice, I would go with Tru first. Everest and Avenues are probably a bit better than Les Nomades though I do believe Les Nomades is under-rated. I have been to Les Nomades and Tru recently (within the year) and would recommend them both. I haven't been to Avenues or Everest in a couple of years.
