Takeout near King and Church

I live in this neighborhood and I honestly can't think of any decent take out spots. Too many Spring Rolls in the area. Got any suggestions you can share? I can't think of any decent Chinese and my fave sushi in the hood was Sushi Man which is now Bettola di Terroni. Pretty open in terms of cuisine.

TIA

  1. I agree too many Spring Rolls, although I have to admit that have eaten there...
For sushi I like Sakura Ichiban at the corner of Adelaide and Jarvis. Food is good and prices are reasonable.

    1. Try Bob's Bulgogi at Victoria and Richmond. Great take-out bulgogi, bibimbap and other Korean classics made with care by the owner himself, using fresh ingredients, all for a very good price. Never been disappointed there yet. They are open late enough on weekdays to grab dinner to go on the way home from work.

I always head right to the beef, so I'm not sure, but the menu is quite varied so I'm sure there are numerous veggie options.

Would you know how late these guys are open?

Their takeout menu says they're open M-F 11-8, Sat 11-3, closed Sundays and holidays.Regarding veggie options, there's a tofu and vegetable choice for the rice and noodle dishes, in addition to the beef, chicken, and shrimp; they've also got a vegetarian bibimbob (that's how they spell it).

I'll have a look next time I decide to buy lunch.

          2. I live in the area too and agree that there aren't a ton of options. I love this place called Fuzen (used to be called John's Sushi Bistro) just east of the corner of Front and Jarvis. I'm obsessed with the complementary soup/noodle thing they give you at the beginning as well as the Green Field roll.

A good Thai option is Mengrai Thai which is a bit further away on Ontario Street between Queen and Richmond.

I'm interested to hear what other suggestions people have. I'm also dying for some good, quick, cheap Chinese/Vietnamese/etc. around here!

            1. A little bit of a walk, but Bolet's Burritos is great at Front/Lower Sherbourne for a delicious mom and pop burrito

              1. Pastabilities right at King and Church has great takeout. Choose your pasta, choose your sauce, and they cook it while you wait. You can also call ahead and they are open late. South side of King just west of Church.

                1. I live in the neighbourhood too and am always looking for good places to eat. There are so many tourist traps! I'm looking forward to trying Bob's Bulgogi.

I tried Galangal Thai Fusion today and enjoyed it. http://www.galangalthaifusion.ca/ It's on Colborne St. just west of Church. It just opened 4 months ago and is run by two Thai sisters. Service was friendly, and they take 10% off if you pay cash for takeout (and eat-in as well). We had the Pad See Ew with beef (which was a slightly smaller portion that I would have hoped -- I like my leftovers! But it was definitely enough for a meal.) and the "Chicken tamarind in love", crispy (but not at all greasy) chicken in a yummy sauce with veggies and rice. I would go back to try their curries and pad thai. For two dishes (with the cash discount), we paid $24. Not super cheap, but we paid over $20 at Spring Rolls one night when we were desperate, and it was horrendous.
One other place I like for a quick meal is the Ukrainian place (Dnister) in the basement of St. Lawrence South Market. We get their pork cabbage rolls and chicken crepes all the time and reheat them. Really good homemade food. They also have homemade sausage and takeout salads (which I haven't tried).

Good to know Galangal is worth trying. I've walked by there a dozen times and always wondered...
