Anyone tried the Newport Cruise Co's Majestic Dinner Cruise in Newport?

Seriously considering this dinner cruise as an option for our Dad's big birthday... there are only a small handful of reviews online, so hoping fellow Hounds can provide some feedback. Is the food any good? Any other thoughts about your experience -- or that of your friends? Thanks!

I have never spoken to anyone who has done it as it would mostly be tourists, but it strikes me that you could feel just part of the crowd there. I guess it depends on who is in your group and what experience you are looking for. Also what month are you doing this? The idea of getting out on the water is a great one, but another option is to do a boat charter and then dinner somewhere.

They actually if you have private dining rooms for your own crowd where they set up what I think is a small buffet. Wondering if the food is good...

Haven't looked into chartering other boats -- any info on that?

A professional group that I belong to chartered the Schooner Aurora last summer. They'll provide a lobster boil dinner, which includes a cruise on the boat afterwards. The food was very good for a catered event - simply and freshly prepared.

        The cruise was breathtaking.

That looks great -- if it were a younger crowd. We're going to have a number of folks in their 80's, so a stable boat would be necessary. Thanks for the idea, though. Really wanting feedback on the Majestic lunch or dinner cruise, guess not many 'Hounds have tried it...

Aurora sounds nice. There is also America's Cup Charters if your group is into sailing and the america's cup boats. but no food there, would just be a sail with drinks. This might be helpful as well for ideas http://www.cruisenewport.com/Charters...

These are sails or overnights, which won't work -- really just want to go out on a boat with cover from the sun for a few hours... surprised no one on the Chow site seems to have tried this!

Don't be surprised, the food on those trips generally sucks..... its not about the food.
If you want to be on teh water and you want to be covered and need something stable.. then do it and don't worry if the food is any good.

If you have some money to spend you can charter a boat - Try Seascope, America's Cup Charters or any number of others (google) and have the dinner catered.
Or go for a short ride ( http://www.cruisenewport.com/RumRunne... - Rum Runner also charters) have dinner at the Mooring, The Black Pearl or 22 Bowens, your elders will be happy at any of those.
