Ramps - Metro Detroit

Did anyone see ramps or wild leeks at the farmer's markets this weekend?

I have also heard local morels are available but a special ramp recipe is awaiting.

We came out of the Pigeon River area Monday with a small bag full but they are the size of green onions, no real bulbs yet. Morels are being found there too but quite small. Expecting rain this weekwnd so maybe....

Haven't seen any ramps yet at the Ann Arbor Farmer's Market, and last year, we didn't get any until well into May. It's been a colder spring so far this year, so my guess is that there aren't any available yet.

Nope....I have found them already (10 days ago) as I stated up above. They are small but they are there for the picking.

I did mention Peanut Butter and Ramp Jelly dumplings to Chef Foo and he laughed and said he is not afraid of any thing we can throw at him. I swear he is crazy like a fox.

Ramps AND morels? This sounds like a pretty shameless self-invitation to the JanPrimus Family Pastures near Lansing, for a wild weekend forage. Not that you remember his thread from last year, because I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

I went out last weekend and found Ramps...Morels I have yet to see and neither has anyone I know. Also Facebook has a group called Michigan Morels that is good at letting you know when and where (Usually by county) you can find them. I made a Duck Consomme with the ramps and oh yes it was awesome.

Earthy.com is offering them from DeWitt (coincidence?) via internet http://www.earthy.com/Fresh_Ramps_Wild_Leeks_-_per_P146C267.cfm

And, the NY Times had an article on Wed. Apparently they have been "discovered".http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/20/din...

I was just wondering if people saw them at the farmer's markets this weekend...

Earthy has no retail spot...they pretty much are a net only business. Although I have seen a van of theirs drive past me when I was in Central Ohio. I have also heard that they have consistancy issues also. I have never bought anything from the, but have heard this from several chefs.

Goat....I will get you some Ramps. The place I go allows me to take buschels of them with out worrying that I am over extending the crop. I believe the Morel season is still a month away though.
