Easter miracle?

So 6 1/2 weeks ago, I opened a bottle of white wine to make risotto, and put what was left in the fridge. I opened it today, and it had turned, basically, to water. It had a very slight fizz and weak aroma, but it was clear and (I couldn't resist) had no taste. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I live with other people, so I suppose it's possible that one of my housemates drank it and put water in the bottle so I wouldn't know, but I really doubt it. I mean, who does that? I Googled it and couldn't find anything. I'm totally mystified. Any thoughts?

Oy Vey. I'm afraid you have been taken--"I live in Ireland with graduate students, so there is a lot of drinking, but it's quite out in the open..." Some things are better left in the dark and not acknowledged...Sometimes, in the midst of the night, the thirst overtakes, and a bit of lemon and water might well replace the ancient grape in the bottle? I knew a fine fellow, by the way, who filled a soft drink bottle with poteen and at Customs, when the Brit officer opened and tasted, my friend
    exclaimed, "A Miracle!"

        :)
Nope - all adults. And it has actually happened a couple of times that one of them finished my wine without realizing it, and both times, he apologized and replaced it, so it just seems weird that he would have filled it with water and hoped I wouldn't notice.
        So weird.

Do you suspect that any of the people in your house have a drinking problem? I do not know why else they would drink your cooking wine and refill the bottle with water. Do you ever find hidden bottles of alcohol in your house? That could be a sign of someone with a problem they are trying to hide.

No, I don't think that's an issue. I live in Ireland with graduate students, so there is a lot of drinking, but it's quite out in the open, and I've never seen any evidence of a real problem. I guess it must have been that someone just drank my wine and didn't want to tell me about it - I just can't believe that anyone would be that petty.

If the cooking wine was 6 1/2 weeks old they probably learned their lesson and won't do it again. They must have been real thirsty to quaff down a bottle of old cooking wine but I had a dormmate that drank off a bottle of room temperature cheap malt liquor that had been sitting open for a few days. There is no telling what some people will do when it comes to alcohol. I'm sorry to hear that they took advantage of you.

Do you mean what kind of wine was it? 2010 Australian Chardonnay. I don't actually drink, and it was just for cooking, so it was whatever was cheapest at the store.
