Chaya or Boulevard for 6 or 7 person dinner

A friend is making reservations for a dinner in May in SF. He asked whether we prefer Chaya at 8:15 or Boulevard at 9:00. Knowing neither, I wonder a few things. Is either more conducive to being able to talk with each other than the other? Would a 9:00 at Boulevard be too heavy a meal that late? Are there any watch outs at either? Just looking for input. Thanks.

The food at Boulevard is far superior to that at Chaya. Far superior.

I'd say Boulevard is about one star better than Chaya but the food concepts are different and you may want to take that into account as well. I like Chaya, but the food is really nothing special. As for Boulevard being a heavy meal, I wouldn't worry about it. Just order food that fits your lightness criteria. Neither restaurant is super quiet, but you can probably hold a conversation at either one.

Those are an odd pair of restaurants: they don't have much in common except location. I think your concerns are valid: Chaya is likely to be noisy and the food at Boulevard is on the heavy side. If location is an issue, maybe see if there's a better time available at One Market?

I don't find the food at Boulevard heavy... One Market is nice. So is Perbacco, though depending upon where you sit, it could be a bit noisy for 7... Ame?
