looking for authentic (probably not on quinta) pescado entero, whole fish in garlic, in pdc, preferably not too high up in the aves (30th is pushing it.) Ideally someplace where the seafood is really fresh and where they don't dumb down the flavors for the gringos. Thanks!

La Pesca, 30th ave just s. of Constituentes. Excellent fresh seafood, get a table in the interior courtyard near the kitchen and you will have a comfortable experience and a great meal. Don't sit near the sidewalk - there is no people watching on 30th ave, just busses and trucks.

La Tarraya, 2nd ave. on the beach. A little more rustic, but is an old authentic original and they get the first shot at the morning catch. They quite fairly sell some fish items by weight. Boquinette were smaller than average last year, pretty normal this season. Palm trees and sand between your toes is relaxing, their complimentary salsa with chips is nuclear.

La Mission on 10th ave. between Juarez and 2nd ave. should have whole fish. It is a new (5 months) spin off by the family that has operated the venerable Mission in Cozumel since the 80's. I enjoyed great food and attentive service there recently, I was in search of the best chile relleno in town and they had it.

You mentioned garlic - if you have transportation, my favorite spot for whole boquinette is Cueva del Pescador in Axumal. They serve it with a unique toasted crunchy garlic sauce. And their 'ritas are the real deal, their conch ceviche is the best anywhere. Anywhere in the world.
