Wine tours in Mendoza
I just need to send a huge recommendation fo Gustavo Delucchi email@example.com
We took a group of 10 people to Mendoza in April. Through Nomacorc, we found gustavo as our tour guide. He met us at the airport, got us through customs quickly, had a 12 passenger van for us and became our new best friend. Through discussions, we had come up with many wineries and restaurants that we wished to visit. Gustavo knew every one and made arrangements for private tastings at each. Upon arrival, we visited, Zuccardi for lunch and then Carinae. We then went to our hotel Postales Argentina in Chacras de Coria and settled in for the night. Next day, Gustova and driver took us to the Uco Valley and visited O' Fournier, La Azul and Salentein wineries. Upon return, Gustavo helped to cook an asado at our hotel's barbecue pit and joined us for an evening of great food and wine. The next day, he met us to go to Catena Zapata, La Garde, and Luigi Bosca. For dinner, he made reservations for the famous Francis Mallman 1884 (Which was far below expectations which wasn't his fault) and a tour of the fresh market. The next day, after being bit by a spider, Gustavo took the group to a hospital, where he instructed the driver to go to the next winery and he stayed with me to help translate through the medical visit. Thanks to him, I got treated quickly, got a friend with a cab and we met the group at the first winery. He was a miracle worker that day. The wineries that we visited were Vinas Cobos, Pulenta Estate, Mendel and Alta Vista. The evening was capped off with a fantastic dinner at Don Mario (highly recommended). We asked Gustavo and the driver to join us at every event since they were so integral to having a great visit. Next day, after Gustavo dropped us off, we found that our flight to Santiago was cancelled after spending the day at the airport. In fact, in the check in process, a box of wine had been lost by the airline when we retrieved our bags. The airlines put us up at a 4 star hotel in town and guess who was there to meet us. Gustavo. After telling him about the wine, he called a friend at the airline and found the lost box. We celebrated with an evening of wine and dinner which made a lost day tolerable. Gustavo was the catalyst for a fantastic trip. We highly recommend his services. His translation techniques and constant attention to details made him worth every peso spent. Easy going, friendly, personable, we felt that he was part of the group. Contact him if you are in the Mendoza area.
Aubsdad, I totally agree. Gustavo was also our tour guide in Mendoza when we were there a couple weeks ago. We joked about how I came to find him on Chowhound because he had never heard of it before.
He truly is a gem of a guide. Coming from Toronto, I've done Niagara winery tours here and it does not compare to the service and quality that he provides. He definitely exceeded my expectations. During our one day tour of the Lujan de Cuyo area we visited Catena Zapata (a must for those who like to see big, grand wineries), Achaval Ferrer (great wine and they sell wine boxes here for you to ship back home), Ruca Malen (lunch here was fantastic.. 5-6 courses with wine pairings for $56 CAD/person), and Carmelo Patti (cute, small winery).
Gustavo knows most of the people at the wineries, so you always feel like you're getting exclusive service. He shares his life stories like you are one of his old buddies, where at the end of the day, you feel like he's your old buddy too!
I'm happy to hear that you also enjoyed your tour!
Happy travels to all and thank you Gustavo again for such a fun day!
