Best restaurant open on Sunday?

I'm looking for suggestions for restaurants open on Sunday for dinner. My original plan was:

Friday: Daniel
Saturday: Jean Georges Lunch, Le Bernardin Dinner
Sunday: Per Se

I wasn't able to get reservations to Per Se on Sunday but got one on Friday so I had to drop Daniel. Now I have find a place for Sunday. I would love to go to Daniel or EMP but unfortunately they're not open. I was thinking Ko, WD50, Del Posto? What else should I consider? Thanks.

  1. Cafe Boulud serves Sunday dinner. It may be Daniel Boulud's second-tier restaurant, but in every way that counts, it's first-rate. Chef Gavin Kaysen is cooking some of the best food in the city right now, and we recently had two spectacular dinners there. The wine list is excellent, service is cordial and polished, and the surroundings are lovely.

Another excelent choice is Ai Fiori. We've been there twice for dinner, and the food has been uniformly superb.

I had lunch at Cafe Boulud this past week - service was seriously flawed.

I did read your post about that. Like you, we have been to Cafe Boulud too many times to count, and service has been polished and faultless every time. In fact, we had two dinners there recently within weeks of each other, and service at both couldn't have been more pleasant and perfect. Why you experienced all those problems is a mystery to me. Did you speak to your captain or the manager about them?

The captain was one of the lousy performers. I just wasn't in the mood to have that discussion. It won't stop me from going again, hopefully it was just an anomaly.

    2. Picholine and Bouley are also open on Sunday.

Unfortunately Bouley is no longer open on Sunday.

Picholine and Ai Fiori are both excellent recommendations.

For something different, I recommend Ko (for either lunch or dinner) if you can get a reservation. I've enjoyed both the lunch and dinner many times during the past 3 years. Ko is all about the food; the food is among the most creative and delicious in NYC.

FWIW, I would switch either Jean Georges or Le Bernardin for Eleven Madison Park.

Have a great time; you have a wonderful line-up of restaurants.

EMP isn't open for Saturday lunch so it would have to oust Le Bernardin.

You're absolutely right! I wish EMP would open for lunch on Saturday!

      2. I would consider Seasonal on West 58th Street near 7th Ave. It may not be at the level of Per Se, but I had one of the best meals ever at that restaurant last year.

        1. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I was just at Schwa in Chicago and really enjoyed it and it looks like Ko has the same kind of vibe with an emphasis on food. I will try to get reservations to Ko and have Cafe Boulud or Ai Fiori as a backup.
