Best chile relleno in Dallas?

Looking for the real deal - cheese filled poblano, egg white batter, thin red sauce. I'm staying in Farmers Branch. Hole in the wall is OK, actually preferred for authenticity.
This board has been great to this newcomer this week! Thanks.

  1. The chile relleno at Guadalupana on Harry Hines was authentic but disappointing. Any others? Yes, I'm bumping my week old thread...there has to be better out there!

    1. Cuquitas or Nuevo Leon. May as well hit those two restaurants as they are both in Farmer's Branch. Could even swing by Tipicos near Belt Line and Josey (haven't tried theirs though). Please post back with what you think.

I went to Cuquita's for lunch today - clean, friendly, fun decor. I give the relleno a B+. I prefer it with a thin red sauce, and it tasted slightly oily, but was nevertheless good with a large, fresh poblano. I'll report on the other 2 places w/ comparisons when I get to them. Mil gracias for the recos!

Nuevo Leon - NICE chile relleno for lunch today! Everything about it was good.

I spotted a dinner item there I must try - cabrito al horno, goat with guajillo chilies in banana leaf, plus a quail in mole. My kind of hoof and feather!

Awesome, glad you enjoyed. And I'll have to try that at Nuevo Leon. There's a ton of quality Mexican places all along Josey and I've barely scratched the surface there.

      2. I always love the chile rellenos at Mattito's - there is one on Forest Lane...several others around town...Part of the Matt's El Rancho group from Austin...
