Hot Cross Buns at Peninsula Pastries in Salinas

A quick note to mention that I picked up some very nice hot cross buns from Peninsula Pastries in Salinas this week. Only 50¢ each, about the size of a biscuit and packed with candied fruit and currants in a rather dense, dark-from-spices bun.

Oh dear, sold out this morning, maybe I won't get any this year.

But I wanted to mention that last year, about a week after Easter, the bakery had some twice-baked almond paste filled ones, made similar to an almond croissant that were even more of a treat. Fingers crossed for a repeat this year.
