Delicious dinner in allston, Brighton, Newton or Cambridge??? Suggestions?

Hi All!

My mom, sister and I have rented a zipcar to go to car dealerships in allston, brighton, newton and watertown tomorrow and I want to take advantage of the ability to go somewhere outside of the city. I am really excited but finding it hard to tell what is good out there. I would appreciate any help, thank you!

Criterea:

*DELICIOUS (type of food is not important. We like all kinds)
*Price is not a big deal, can go from $12 entrees to $28, quality is more important.
*Sit down restaurant with pleasant atmoshphere (no SUPER bright lights or loud bar people)
*Full bar preferred, although beer and wine is ok
*Restaurant that cannot be found in the city

I guess that that is it. Thank you VERY much!!! I look forward to your responses

bb, i agree w/ you. I've eaten at all the above and would, hands down, pick 51 Lincoln for the great food and comfy attractive room.

+1 for the 51 Lincoln rec - have eaten at all 3, also and think that's the best. Second would be Lumiere, and far third is Blue Ginger - think it's just OK.

i can't TELL you how much I have wanted to love Blue Ginger. The menu, the concept/approach, the room- is SO what appeals to me, plus i had a former sous who was there back when it opened, but I just have never felt much more than let down there, so we stopped going long ago .

        1. To be fair, two of the places you mention, Allston and Brighton, are "in the city."

Given your criteria, I would suggest Taqueria Mexico in Waltham, which serves delicious food in a sit-down restaurant with a pleasant, cozy atmosphere. I believe it's just a beer and wine license; I don't know because normally I enjoy their excellent horchata and jugos. It's a touch more downscale than some of the other suggestions offered, but the quality is excellent.

so many choices - for "fancy sitdown" Lumiere in Newton. For excellent Asian, Jo Jo Taipei. For great Italian, Il Capriccio in Waltham. For cozy mediterranean and excellent fish, Kouzina in Newton or Cognac Bistro in Brookline (cognac bistro is my favorite of these).

Just a quick correction. Taqueria Mexico is in Waltham, not Watertown. Though Watertown borders Waltham by way of Rt. 20.

Would you consider La Campania for Italian in Waltham? It would only be a short drive along Rt. 20 from the Watertown zipcar station. Check out the menu: http://www.lacampania.com/menu.html. I enjoy the bar area at La Campania (cozy, warm and inviting with a view of the kitchen), but if you think noise may be a factor, then ask for a table away from the bar, in their 'dining room'.

Il Capriccio has been suggested and is a great choice for Italian, but a little more stuffy and stiff compared to La Campania.

Why on earth did I write Watertown? Thanks for catching that.

la campagnia is a great idea; lovely special place.

              2. Bondir (Broadway in Cambridge) is superb. Feels French but supplies are local; I had shad roe that was out of this world. Very small dining room: make reservation.

I hear Bondir is fabulous and want to try as it is around the corner from me. However, other Cambridge suggestions: Craigie on Main, Hungry Mother or Cuchi Cuchi. Love those places!

                2. 51 Lincoln seems to suit all of your criteria.
