Anniversary
My wife and I are celebrating our 3rd anniversary on May 1st. We are looking for a restaurant with absolutely killer food. If it's romantic, that's a bonus. We just want to have a great time and eat amazing food. Neither one of us drink alcohol, and budget isn't an issue. We live in Gilbert, but I'm willing to make the trek out to Scottsdale or Phoenix. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and what I can expect the experience to be like. Thanks!!

What if we took the romantic aspect out of the equation. Based purely on how good the food is, where would you go?

re: Bill Hunt
Both Binkley's and Kai sound like great suggestions, however they seem so over the top I don't know if we could feel comfortable being there. Call me crazy, but they seem really intimidating. Neither one of us come from money, nor do we have any now, So we aren't used to eating top-notch food at high-end places. My wife and I love food and are super passionate about it. Since going out for a nice meal is something we rarely get to do, I want to make sure I do it right this weekend. I'm considering Bandera, Houstons or NOCA. I really want to try NOCA but nothing screams out to me on the menu......

I think if you want to be more comfortable, I would recommend T. Cook's, FnB, The Mission, or any one of the great steakhouses like JG, BLT, or even a spot like Wildfish. T.Cook's is very special and nice and romantic. NOCA is not exactly a special occassion spot and leaves a lot to be desired as far as atmosphere, ambience, etc. Good food, fun, and foodie, but not a spot for a special night out.

"T.Cook's is very special and nice and romantic"
I could not agree more! T. Cooks is indeed a very lovely restaurant on an historic and beautiful Phoenix property. It is not intimidating in the least. Might I suggest renting a lovely casita for the night and having your meal brought to your own garden room? You and your wife could stroll the grounds at sunset and retire to your private space for supper.
The hotel/restaurant has a Director of Romance whom you could contact for more suggestions.

I agree wth all recs except the Mission and FnB can both be on the louder side - it wouldn't bother me for an anniversary dinner but it depends on what kind of ambiance you're looking for. Food is great at both though. I'd also like to suggest Quiessence at the Farm at South Mountain. Not too far from you, great food and very romantic.

re: danieli10
From my personal experience, FnB would be one of the last places that I would recommend, but that is just me. I need something besides just having "small plates," like food, and service. FnB had neither.
Now, I WILL second T Cook's, and also NOCA. Have not dined at The Mission, so cannot comment.
