Evarona Dairy & Falls Church Farmer's Market
A couple of weekends ago, I tasted some amazing sheep's milk cheese from Evarona Dairy which had a booth at the Sugarloaf Craft Fair in Gaithersburg, MD. Great stuff! We bought wedges of fresh Pecorino, ash cheese, cracked black pepper cheese, and one other. (FYI, their cheeses have very fanciful names which are unrelated to the more common name. For example, their Pecorino is called Stony Man. The fourth cheese we bought is called Piedmont but I don't remember the more common name for this cheese.)
I asked where this cheese could be found in the NVirginia area, and the answer is at the Crystal City Farmer's Market. When I asked specifically about the Falls Church Farmer's Market, I was told that Evarona had been rejected with the explanation that FC already has "enough" cheese producers. I wonder how far Evarona got with their application since the types of cheese already available are cow's milk varieties -- not even remotely similar to the varieties being produced by Evarona. (It's puzzling to me why FC would allow two vendors who sell almost identical offerings of mozzarella but not be interested in totally new sheep's milk cheeses.)
Does anyone know if there is a process for requesting a new vendor for the Falls Church Farmer's Market?
In the meantime, lucky board readers who live near the Penn Quarter, White House, or HHS Farmers' Markets will be able to enjoy Evarona's spectacular cheese when those markets open soon.
