Wine fans, what's the latest on Casa Bleve?

steve h. Apr 20, 2011 05:43 PM

Deb and I tried to fit it into our March visit but their schedule and ours didn't mesh. We were fans of the old buffet but time has marched on and they are now a full service restaurant. An up-to-date report would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I dragged Franco there for dinner some weeks ago to try it out. An antipasto plate of involtini (roll-ups, for the uninitiated) evoked the old thrills of the buffet in the anticipation but the reality lacked the old spark. The choices of primi and secondi were very limited. I confess I forget what we had. Everything was excellent, but it is not a restaurant menu. It is a menu that would clearly be happier if you ordered cheese and salumi plates, and the few offerings of regular food are sort like if you're a wine person but you brought a hungry friend who absolutely has to have pasta. Also the lunch buzz of the whole place was missing, and in that space for once I missed a little bustle.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's seldom wise to tinker with a winning formula.

Thanks for the report. Have a great meal this Sunday.
