Recommendation for Mexico City Norte

I will have one afternoon/ evening in DF and would like to have a unique, but not overly expensive, dining experience, Is there anything special in the area by the Cetral de Autobuses del Norte area?

  1. It is probably a 15+ minute but inexpensive taxi ride to Carnitas El Bajio's original location at Azcapotzalco. This location closes early - by 6:30 or so.

The Empanada de plátano rellena de frijol is a unique and delicious starter. If you want carnitas, you may want to order "solamente carne," unless you like offal and spare parts ; ). The specials, like a recent chile relleno with squash blossoms, are definitely worth trying, too.

I second the motion for El Bajío in Azcapotzalco and add another choice: Nico's, in the same neighborhood.

Had one of the best lunches ever at Nico's last November. and edefinitely THE best Guacamole. (Yes, there is a "right way" to make it!)
