Great American Music Hall

susans Apr 20, 2011 01:09 PM

I'm a Long Beach CH who will be in town May 3 for a concert and am looking for a vegetarian friendly, but not necessarily strictly vegetarian place to eat near the Great American Music Hall. Since I am meeting someone coming from Mission and 1st, we could also eat someplace near there. I don't know if we will have a car. He'll be dressed for work; I'll be wearing jeans and we don't want to break the bank, but are not counting pennies.

I think most of the Thai restaurants nearby are vegetarian -friendly: Lers Ros, Thai House, there are two or three others within two blocks. A La Turca has a lot of vegetarian dishes.

YamaSho (Japanese) has a fantastic menu and fun environment to boot. Pagolac (Viet.) is fantastic too.

I went to Pagolac recently with vegetarians and they were not too thrilled with their options. I think there were two appetizers and one entree they could eat. Lers Ros is reasonably veg-friendly, but probably your best bet in the immediate area is Bang San around the corner. It's halal Thai, with a whole separate menu for vegetarians.

If you have a chance to go a little farther (just 4 blocks down O'Farrell from GAMH), there are three good Pakistani spots who of course have lots of veg options. Shalimar, Pakwan, and Lahore Karahi - that's in order from most to least divey/flourescent lights/linoleum floors.
