Sherman Oaks Question
I will be in Sherman Oaks for one night and I'm looking for a good restaurant where I would feel comfortable dining by myself for dinner before a show at the Whitefire Theater. All cuisines and price points considered. I'll be by myself, so it would be great if they had a bar or counter where I could eat.
Thanks for your help!

While I'm not certain what the solo dining situation would be like at the new location of Oak Fire Pizza it is true that you could park in the middle in between the theater and Oak Fire and walk easily back and forth to your car after you were finished with your evening at both of them.

New Italian La Cava is also very nearby (on same block as Boneyard Bistro). It doesn't have a bar/counter, but is so warm and casual that it would feel very comfortable dining alone here. Excellent pasta. A little further west (Van Nuys/Ventura) is Sushi Iwata, where you of course have the sushi bar--very good, fresh sushi at reasonable prices. I believe you can eat at the bar at Cafe Bizou (just enjoyed a monkfish dinner there & was reminded of how reliable their food is, particularly the fish.).

If you like French food, you'll love Pinot Bistro. They open at 5:30 and have a bar and counter area where you can comfortably dine solo and order anything from the regular menu plus the "bar only specials." Some of my personal favorties are the French Onion Soup, the Frisee and Spinach Salad with bacon and poached egg, the Escargot (in the shell), the Hanger Steak, and the crispy Fries. Good desserts and a full bar, as well. One of my favorite restaurants in L.A.

You'll be right down the street from Boneyard Bistro. Dine solo at the bar.
Also several great sushi options down the street a bit towards studio city on ventura sit at at the sushi bar... Asanebo, Kiwami, Katsuya, etc.

re: SIMIHOUND
To call Boneyard Bistro anything resembling "the best Sherman Oaks has to offer" is so wrong that I must reluctantly point out that almost anyplace on Ventura Boulevard will give you better food and better service than that sorry, ludicrously overpriced establishment. If you just want a beer, Boneyard would be fine, but if you're planning to have dinner, stick with any of the other restaurants mentioned here and you'll be much happier.
