Pepe's Tacos Las Vegas

janetofreno Apr 19, 2011 10:05 PM

There may be several versions of this taqueria in Las Vegas, or maybe Pepe's Tacos is a generic enough name, so I'm reporting only on the location on N. Decatur (near Washington):

After a long hike the other day I was craving a taco. And DH continues to be on a vegetarian kick, so he wasn't going to indulge with me (although he did kindly agree to accompany me while I indulged myself....). We had stopped for gas on Decatur, and started randomly looking for taco places. Pepe's was the first place we found. I liked knowing that it is open 24 hours; its close enough to our house that it could be the perfect stopping place on the way home from a late flight. Anyway: I noticed an al pastor spit so of course that's what I wanted to try. Ended up ordering two al pastor tacos and one chicken taco. DH filled up on the crunchy homemade zanahorias and radishes (recommended!). The chicken taco was boring. The al pastor, otoh, was worthy of a return trip. They are small tortillas (two to a serving), but plenty of juicy tasty meat.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who likes real al pastor. Delicious! Tacos are 1.45 each. Zanahorias (and all the trimmings) are free. This is a large, friendly place with nice staff. And the tvs were showing Mexican cooking lessons..... No alcohol served.

Thanks for the report. Always good to hear about pastor on a spit. So much better than the common cheaters trick of grilling it on the flat top. How was the salsa? Did they have a homemade rojo?

They have a rojo, but I only tasted the salsa verde, sorry. The verde was fine, although it could be more picante.

We dined at the Pepe's on Boulder Highway and were disappointed. Like Janet, my wife found the chicken taco to be blah. I had 2 pastor tacos and the meat was dried out.
