brown sugar mochi

story Apr 19, 2011 04:34 PM

Anyone know where to find brown sugar mochi in the San Jose area? I didn't see it at Mitsuwa. Better yet, anyone willing to share a recipe for it? It is my new favorite thing since my mother-in-law brought it back from Taiwan last week.

Did you try Shuei-Do Manju Shop on Jackson Street in San Jose?

No, but thanks for the advice! I'll check there. I'm in Mtn View/Palo Alto, so not as familiar with San Jose.

          Shuei-Do doesn't have it.

Since Mitsuwa and Shuei Do are "Japanese", I think you will have to find a Taiwanese bakery/grocery store.

My mother-in-law bought them in Taiwan at a Japanese market and said this was a Japanese confection. She may also just assume that it's Japanese and not really know if there are Taiwan roots. Any knowledge of Taiwanese markets in Palo Alto or San Jose? 99 Ranch isn't purely Taiwanese and I know they don't have it.
