Has anyone made Peeps Sushi (aka Peepshi)?

  • 8

If you google Peeps Sushi you will see what I mean. They look so cute and I want to make them for Easter but they look like a PITA. Has anyone tried this? Any advice?

  1. No, I haven't tried it. All the Peeps that come into our house get used up in Jousting.

There are videos all over YouTube...but basically, you insert a toothpick into the side of a peep, positioned like a lance. Place 2 peeps on a plate, about one inch apart, and put in the microwave. As the peeps heat up they swell and one will be pierced by the lance of the other.

it's one of those things that shouldn't be so funny, but it really is. If you peeps haven't melted To smithereens you can use them to make peep s'mores.

    2. This looks like the kind of project that would be fun at a children's (or adult family) gathering. However, I would certainly take it one step further and make marshmallows (recipe is in today's NYTimes), flavor it with extract or rosewater, then sprinkle with colored sanding sugars and cut out in desired shapes. The recipe is easy if you are comfortable working with gelatin and have an electric mixer. Sorry, I cannot eat peeps. Terrible tasting.

      1. Never made it but I fully support any of your attempts. It can't be as time consuming as my attempts at real sushi, as all peepshi ingredients will stick together!

        1. Well I just bought all the ingredients so I am commited now.
And I bought extra Peeps for a few games of jousting!! LOL---thanks gimlis1mum!

I could do the jousting ones. I have a nice collection of plastic swords (also paper umbrellas-I guess Peeps on the beach?). Please let us know how it works out. I'm trying to get my daughter and niece interested in helping me do this. I do so love to play with food.

If you need some Peeps inspiration and visuals, over at Serious Eats dot com they are highlighting some fun uses for the marshmallow darlings. The jousting idea was highlighted the other day along with some fun Peep sushi ideas.
