Anyone resuscitate homemade yogurt?

I made a batch of yogurt yesterday morning. It did not seem to work. So I reheated the milk and put more starter in it and this morning it was yogurt! At least I think it iwas. It was thickened and had whey on top. But it wasn't tangy. DId I make something else? ANyone one know what I could be doing wrong?
