Uttapam and Bhatura?

PaqpIn Apr 18, 2011 07:45 PM

Anyone know where there is a good Indian resturant that might have both Bhatura and Uttapam? Shalimar has Bhatura and Kanishka has Uttapam, but so far I have not found a place in the area that has both. I know they are from different areas - so it might be tough, but I am hopeful. Thanks

I'd try Chili's Deli & Mart in the U District. They probably have uttappam, and their giant puris are pretty bhatura-like.

I think I might actually have you covered here. They have installed a great (and super cheap) new Indian restaurant inside the Overlake Mall (next to Chuck E Cheese on 148th in Bellevue) by the name of Royal India Chaat Corner. This place has all sorts of Indian street foods and chaats for ridiculously low prices. Plus you get free chai with every food order. AND they're open when the other Indian places have closed between lunch and dinner. There is also a good selection of sweets there.

I've had the bhatura before (it comes with chana masala) and thought it was pretty good, if a bit too oily. You should check this place out. They have a good masala dosa. http://www.tasteepic.com/royalindiach...

Oh this is good news. Sunday at 4:30 pm vada cravings can be met! Have you tried the full serve restaurant yet? That's almost next door to Spice Route. Wow.

Yeah it's right by Spice Route, which I'm sure has caused a major stir. No, I haven't tried the full service yet. I keep meaning to. There's a sign outside that says their buffet has over 30 (? maybe more, I can't remember?) items. I must say that I am intrigued. What's funny is that, as a caucasian, I was caused at the Chaat corner on one of my visits that maybe I would rather go to the full service area, as that is where curries are available. I laughed and said that I was very happy eating chaats.

We tried to go to the Chaat Corner today for lunch, but it was closed. It looks like they're doing a bit of work in there? But we ended up going to the buffet, which I was happy about because then we got to try more things. They had a Pani Puri station, idly, samosas, and a variety of curries (nowhere near 30). They brought dosas to our table, which were good.

All in all good South Indian vegetarian and vegan food.
