Recommendations for a nice dinner gathering

Hello everyone

Its been a while since I've been out to a nice restaurant so I thought the best place to get some knowledgeable reviews and suggestions was chowhound.

Looking for a nice restaurant for a birthday get together for six.

Here are some criteria:

Would like the restaurant to be in the GTA.
Would like it if it wasn't too loud or there are parts of the restaurant that are more quiet and secluded.
And of course most important, delicious, consistent yummy food and genuine good service.

Here are some nice restaurants I've been to in the past:

Lei Wah Heen, Mistura,Splendido, Sassafraz, Bymark,North 44, Pangaea, Sushi Kaji and Scaramouche

Since its been like two years at least since I've been to any of those restaurants I'm not sure what the service and quality is like since I last went for those restaurants I've listed and I'm not sure what new restaurants have come on the scene since then.

I would appreciate your suggestions

As others have said, George would be a great pick. I also love Jacob & Co as a high-end steakhouse. You wouldn't be disappointed with either IMHO. :-)

Ruby Watchco is good, but it is not similar to the restaurants you have mentioned. Its a casual, family style set menu (ie- everyone eats the same thing), with a limited wine list. It is not fine dining. Out of the places you have mentioned, Splendidio, Scaramouche, Mistura, Lai Wah Heen, and Sushi Kaji have all maintained a very good reputation on this board. Some other places you may consider: George, Blacktree (Oakville), Nota Bene, Ici Bistro, Jacob $ Co.

I've never been to Ruby Watchco but it seems every review mentions how loud it is. I would second George.

I've been twice, and it's good but I find that there is quite a bit of fat/butter used in the cooking. I'm surprised that nobody else has ever mentioned that. But it is loud, and feels crowded as it's a small space.

Try RUBYWATCH CO. Lynn Crawfords new place on Queen east , its a fantastic place for a group of 4 or more. You will need a reso for sure , this place is always packed but the food is incredible!
