Anniversary Dinner for (out of the loop) foodies

My husband and i are celebrating our 3rd anniversary tomorrow night!! We love great food, we're adventureous eaters, and we'd love to try a new place. I used to keep up with the latest and greatest in the Austin food scene, but we also have a 6 month old baby, so i'm totally out of the loop. We're tossing around Uchiko / Wink / Texas French Bread. (by the way, we won't have baby with us.) Just wondering if i'm missing any good new restaurants since we've been pretty homebound lately. We're willing to go downtown, but bonus points if the restaurant is a bit further north. We live near Lamar/ 45th. And we like ALL kinds of food. Thanks foodies :)

I can't say enough good things about Uchiko. Food is always outstanding, and service is some of the best I've had anywhere. It is absolutely worth the money, in my opinion. A lot of people like Foreign and Domestic, but I've had two bad meals there (one was so abysmal that we went to Uchiko afterwards) and won't be back.

I had a nice meal at Texas French Bread about a month ago. Excellent mussels and a good garlic-y pasta dish with shrimp IIRC. Also, it's BYOB, so you can save some money on the wine if you have a nice bottle sitting around the house.

My daughter and her fiance went to Uchiko this past Friday night and absolutely raved! Not cheap, in fact pricey to the max, but heavenly was the description. So if it is in the budget get a reservation online and go. Unfortunately I think the only time available as of 4:00 today is a 5:30 table! Another suggestion is Chez Zee, new chef, not far from home better price and easier to get into. Still enjoyable and delicious. Or if you want a romantic setting and an excellent meal in your general vacinity try Fonda San Miguel, always great, pricey romantic and delectible.

Fonda San Miguel has been coasting on its reputation for years. Texas French Bread is great, although the service is at times distressingly slow (especially if you did not BYOB, as they don't tend to fill your tea/water promptly). I've seen other diners there with wee babies.

Uchiko is a great choice. Foreign & Domestic is also worth considering. Had fine meals at both.
