Croque Madame?

misohungrychewlow Apr 18, 2011 10:12 AM

Where can I get a really good croque madame (or monsieur) in the greater Phoenix area?

My favorite is the croque madame from Petite Maison on a croissant.

There's a place link showing up for Croque Cafe near 40th St N of Camelback. Does anyone know if this location exists? I see an online link for a store at Scottsdale Rd & Thunderbird.

It does in fact exist - it's north of Chelsea's Kitchen on the west side of 40th St, and is actually set back in a nondescript office building. I haven't been in a couple years, but I found it to be a more than acceptable place for lunch when in the area.

I'm not sure how good/authentic it is as my experience with Croque Madame is limited but that's my go to breakfast/lunch order at La Grande Orange.

Well, I just told you that it's very good. So go try it and you'll have a new experience.

Oops, that link (croque) popped up automatically...CH links can be very frustrating sometimes! Meant to say I've always had it at La Grande Orange and really enjoy it there, but that's the only place I've tried it.

I think that LGO's version is just fine, although i prefer a version with a mornay sauce draped over the top for maximum indulgence. Hillside Spot serves a similar version, as it's somewhat of a spin-off (though unrelated in ownership).

I second the Hillside Spot in Ahwatukee... It's pretty good...

They also have a killer Carne Asada Torta that's worth checking out...
