Sunday brunch next week, Minetta Tavern or Malialino?

Trying to decide where to go to brunch next Sunday. Is one better than the other for brunch? Have looked at web site menus but have not been to either one so don't know what atmosphere is like. Looking for some info to help make my decision.

    1. Whichever one you choose, you should try to make a reservation as soon as possible...

      1. We went Maialino two weeks in a row for brunch we liked it so much. Even though it is not on the brunch menu, ask if you can have the maialino, thesignature dish: roasted suckling pig served with rosemary potatoes. It is an amazing dish to share with the table.

We've never been to Minetta Tavern so I can't help you there.

PS...you do know next Sunday Is Easter? It may be difficult to get a table at this late date.

        1. Yes, same as ttoommyy! I like Malialino but it might be too late to book the table next weekend...

Well if I'm unable to get a reservation for next week then perhaps with better planning I'll try a future date. So the question remains is one preferable over the other. I've seen the menus but trying to get a little insight on atmosphere, service, overall dining experience for brunch.

We've not been to Minetta, but Maialino is one of our favorite restaurants. We've been there for dinner, lunch, breakfast, and brunch. Reservations are accepted for the trattoria but not for the bar area. The menus are the same. Tables in the trattoria are close but not overly so, and the vibe is upbeat without being excessively noisy. This being a Danny Meyer restaurant, service is welcoming and cheeful. The food at all meals is, of course, delicious!

Even though it is Easter Sunday, give them a call. You never can tell. There could be an opening. Also, they maintain a wait list, and there are often cancellations.

Maialino is brighter and cheerier, lots of windows, and families. Whereas Minetta Tavern has the shades drawn the whole time, but the inside is very Rat Pack-esque, lots of caricature of famous people lining the walls, so it feels very throwback NY. Service is excellent for both, with the slight edge going to Maialino since they are a Danny Meyer place and often go above and beyond. However, I think you'd probably be able to find a Maialino-ish restaurant in other places; you'd be hard pressed to find something with the character and history of Minetta Tavern elsewhere.
