Its a chain, but I take my kids to that Chili's on Ventura in Encino all the time, they love it.

How about Cafe Bizou on Ventura. Nice environment, have good foods and drinks, and not expensive.

Itzak Hagadol in Encino is an israeli restaurant that i like that is very kid-friendly.
the food is high-quality, but there is no question that this is not "normal american chain-type' food.
