Link Link Link Restaurant Links Where Neither Desired Nor Logical
There are a few restaurants that show up on the MSP board seemingly just by thinking about mentioning a syllable or two of the restaurant name. (Hyperbole is my middle name, btw.) One damnable instance of this is the Snelling Cafe - which turns up every dang time someone mentions a restaurant on Snelling Avenue which is a thoroughfare with quite a few restaurants. Nice for the proprietors, I guess but a small irritant for the rest of us.
A ferinstance in this post asking why no Popeye's in Saint Paul. Don't judge :)

I've marked that restaurant as one that won't autolink in the future. You can email any further examples you come across to moderators@chowhound.com and we'll take a look.
Thanks!

In Italy, Gambero Rosso is a prime example. When the guidebook gets mentioned the restaurant gets linked.

Link to the restaurant page?

Yes the Gambero Rosso guide is mentioned and a link is created to a restaurant - up to now in Vernazza, but I have added the second in San Vincenzo so i also may link to that restaurant in future. Ive been reporting these (or asking the OPs to delete) as these come up.

Sorry, I was asking for a link to the restaurant page itself so I could fix it. I can search for it, but I'm more certain I'm correcting the right record if the person reporting it provides a link. In this case, there's a few results that turn up under those search terms.

Any of the top three might link. http://www.chow.com/search?query=Gamb...
The San Vicenzo one is a new entry and I havent actually seen it link so far

Do you have an example of a thread where it linked? I can figure out which one it is from there. If you haven't seen San Vicenzo link, it's most likely this one: http://www.chow.com/restaurants/91714... but I'd like to confirm.

I have requested deletion of several - that is why you cant find any. I think perhaps both the Vernazza and E-R restaurants have been linked. the autolinks are particularly irritativng when they go across regions, since the mapping becomes useless.
is there a problem with precluding autolinking on more than one restaurant?

Autolinking, when working properly, is a good thing, so I try not to exclude restaurants that don't need to be excluded.

Until people look critically at the links generated by their posts the errors just keep getting generated.
Maybe Im just being too much of a housekeeper, but mapping failures generated by these errors really annoy me. while I try to encourage people to correct their links, its not ncessarily the thing to do with newbies who may be just swinging into the board for a brief visit.
I just ran a test by adding a dummy post mentioning Gambero Rosso and it created two links, to the two restaurants in Vernazzo and San Vicenzo. but not the place in E-R I did not save it.
