Need "authentic" British Pub in SF or East Bay
That serves Shepherd's Pie and plays British rock. Or at least, has a juke box. Is this asking too much?
Help!

there's a place in downtown Berkeley on Shattuck, name is escaping me.... i don't know how authentic they are, but they have the food, and i think the music too.... i dunno, it's been many years since i've been.
oops, wrong on all counts. it was an Irish pub but it's CLOSED.

If you're willing to drive a bit north, go to Mayflower Pub in San Rafael. Check out the 81 yelp reviews of it. It's been there a very long time.

Pig & Whistle has a jukebox and shepherd's pie. I'm not sure about White Horse or Elephant & Castle.
East Bay, Commonweath or Kensington Circus, which has real ale on hand pump.

I guess fish and chips and Scotch at Edinburgh Castle isn't what you're looking for? How about Liverpool Lil's?
Of course San Francisco has far more Irish pubs than British ones. Mad Dog in the Fog is owned by a bloke from Birmingham. Can't remember if there's a jukebox. Kezar's has good burgers and the right feel.
The best shepherd's pie is at Irish pubs. Phoenix (on Valencia, links aren't working) should still have it on the menu.

The best Shepard's Pie I have had is at O'Reilly's in North Beach. It's an Irish bar, but I like their pie!

Kensington Circus feels like a good british pub, but I can't find their menu. Music tends to the hippie british folk/rock/jazz guitar bands like Fairport Convention. The Pub on Solano has a great feel, but has no food. Martin's West down the peninsula has pasties, but they're new school like blue cheese and heirloom beet. Short on british beer. Rose and Crown, also down the peninsula, feels like a british pub - has that smell - but I always have the hamburgers there - not sure about shepard's pie - lots of sports screens, can't remember british rock, strong on british beer. they participate in SF Beer Week. The Swingin' Door (ex prince of wales) in San Mateo used to be very british, and has decent music, but looks like they've taken some of the british specialties off the menu, like Deep Fried Wallies. Sorry not to be more help.

The starry plough is VERY irish, northern, and brits are not terribly welcome. The food is pizza, and not terribly bad. Music there is quite good - one place a lot of musicians like to play.

The Plough also has burgers and sandwiches. No shepherd's pie. No jukebox. Very not British.

I have a buddy who swears by the Englander and the fish pie...in San Leandro. Good beer and ale selection...and the floatie half guiness variations served, black and tan, etc.
A 3rd or 4th on Kensington Circus, bangers and mash, fish and chips...and if you go on a foggy/over cast evening...there's a creepy and quaint feel that adds to the British atmosphere.
