Quiet Dinner in SF Tonight

I know this is nearly impossible... but I need a rec for a quiet dinner tonight in SF. Somewhere where you don't have tohers sitting immediately adjacent to you. Any cuisine or neighborhood is okay. Moderate pricing please so no Gary Danko type. And decent food (ie it's not quiet because there are no patrons due to crappy food). Thanks!

The Richmond. Was exactly what we were looking for.

Bacco in Noe Valley is usually quiet. Ask for a tale on the right hand side in the back and you'll be relatively far away from other diners.

So where did you finally go & was it a nice quiet dinner with good food?

          If it's not too late:

Piqueo's (depending on where you sit)
Blue Plate (depending on where you sit; ask for the back rooms)
          Inka's
          L'Ardoise?
          Helmand Palace

The Chronicle's website lets you search by noise level, price level, and rating simultaneously. For instance, searching for at least two stars, at most two bells, and at most $$ gives 61 hits in San Francisco.

The tables at El Mansour are pretty far apart and the seating on cushions allows you to sit right next to your dining partner and have a confidential conversation but on a Friday night they probably have a belly dancer.

Many years there was an Asian restaurant (Chinese, I think) in Japantown where each table had its own enclosed booth. That one is probably long gone but maybe someone on the board knows of another similar place. It was a great concept. Barring that, any place with booths would provide some privacy and noise reduction.

Less out of date is the following list of restaurants for “Quiet Conversation” pulled out of the Zagat 2010 SF guide. Not surprisingly it includes some very expensive places needing advance reservations, but maybe something here will work for you--

                Bushi-Tei
                Cafe Jaqueline
                Campton Place

                Lovejoy's Tea
                Luce
                Masa's
                Quince

                Seasons

Seasons is a good suggestion; pricey, but soothing. Although you probably get the same benefit spending two hours in their bar without ordering steak.

                  Zinna's gone.

Try Hayes Street Grill aka the nunnery. It's definitely quiet in there.

Try a quiet search under discussion in the top right hand corner.

Did that... no answer that really appealed.

Ruth's thread had a bunch of suggestions for quiet places. None of them appealed?

Yeah, probably b/c she was looking for a quiet, celebratory dinner while I'm not. Thanks tho.
