Looking for Shwarma around Coxwell and Danforth

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations around a shwarma/falafel joint around Coxwell and Danforth. I would be willing to go as far as Pape and Danforth. If anyone can recommend a place that is close to Coxwell and Cosburn, that would be perfect!

There is a new Shwarma place directly across from Globe Bistro. I have not tried it yet.

There is also the place just 100m north of Danforth on the east side of Pape. It looks good but again I've not tried it.

Drive to Folia Grill on Pape and Floyd (just south of O'Connor).
Read the reviews on chowhound about it.
They have chicken gyros which essentially is chicken shwarma (not sure if there's a fat or lamb fat on the top to marinate the chicken). Its bloody awesome.

While I am fond of Folia Grill (and believe me, I am very fond of it). Sometimes I crave the flavour oomph of a shwarma. And Mrs. Vache really enjoys a falafel now and again. I know I saw some places on Pape around Folia Grill that advertised shwarma. Anyone been?

          there are 2 places.
1 is across from the TD Bank on Pape and Wentworth. never eaten there, but heard that it started off fine and then went downhill. they put the standard FLAMES OF SHWARMA GRILLZ on the window that seem to be on every shawarma resto in Toronto, and advertise that they do hookah. it looks quite quiet and i'm not sure if they can survive the summer.

the other place was closer to O'Connor just north of the SDM. its changed hands a few times. not sure if they do falafel anymore, since they're more Turkish than they were when they opened (as Hot and Roll).

Do you mean Louis Meat Market? I have never seen "Louie's". Louis meat market makes good gyros, but it's nowhere near Coxwell.

Sorry. I guess I shouldn't work from memory on these small, but important, things.

I'm mentioning it as maybe there is a new place called Louie's that I don't know about!

So yes it is important to get it right. Or provide an address if the name is wrong.

I'll be going by the place on Saturday and get it straight right down to the apostrophe. I thought this site was sort of a help line not a Ph.D defence.

Sultan Shawarma & Falafel on the corner of Main and Danforth is pretty good. They have pickled turnips and good hot sauce - just make you direct the addition of the toppings.

Does Sultan have "toumeh" garlic sauce (the thick stuff dreams are made of)? For me, that completes a shawarma. Seems like only true lebanese places have it.

I'm not sure. They are from Jordan. They do make foul on occasion.

Picked up a couple of chicken shawarma sandwiches yesterday. The chicken was white meat and well seasoned, liked it very much. Not too fond of their pickles and pickled turnips. They have garlic sauce, but it is not very thick. Next time I will ask for more garlic sauce and no pickles or turnips.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is foul?

Foul Mudammas is a dish consisting of Fava beans.
Fowl or Foul is pronounced fool.

Sultan is probably the closest without having to get in the car to make it up to Lawrence and Pharmacy.

If you are going to settle for gyros, go for the one at Folia Grill at Pape and Mortimer. Well seasoned and flavoured from using real meat.
