Trader Joes Frozen Scallops (Sea)

Bought some for the first time today. Only 10.99 per #. The price of scallops has become ridiculous- they start at around 19.00 #- and that is in the supermarkets, not the fish stores!. Has anyone tried them? I love sea scallops, but cannot bring myself to pay the price. I searched the archives, but cannot find any info on them. TIA.

  1. We buy them quite often. Thaw them in the fridge, rinse them well, and let stand between layers of paper towels for 30 mins or so, and they're very good.
DON'T buy the bay scallops, we did once and they were awful. Scallop-loving kitty would have nothing to do with them whatsoever.

Thanks for the tips. I dont care for bay scallops, but I love sea scallops. And my cats are picky, so they probably would not like them, either! These ones are good sized, so I think i may grill them.

Dry them off well, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    2. I bought frozen Japanese sea scallops from TJ's a while ago (before they all became radioactive). They were high quality enough that I was able to use them for a ceviche. There is a tiny bit of fishiness, so I probably wouldn't use a very simple preparation (i.e. seared with butter), but just a bit of seasoning would cover it up.
