best Chinese on Gerrard East (old chinatown)?
Would love to find a decent place for takeout. Live in the Beach where ethnic is watered down. Still needs to be fairly authentic -- looking for the basics: congee, rice noodles, etc.... Wish there was a congee queen down here but too far to go.

I don't know if it is the best, but Ka Ka Lucky Seafood BBQ is pretty good. We usually order the BBQ pork, duck, tofu, broccoli and rice for takeout, but have also ordered some lobster dishes which we enjoyed. I bought a large lobster from Bill's lobster last fall, and Bill called them up and told them to prepare it for me. About 25 minutes later, I walked out with about 3 or 4 different dishes made from that lobster. Bill and his family eat there often after closing the store, so they must like it. You will find a few reviews on it here:

re: petek
It's decent Chinese food at the right price and close to home by for my family. We get a lot of take out there for when we're too lazy and have guests.
I think if you wanted Chinese in the area, that's pretty much where you'd go. It's definitely not destination dining. I really do like the turnip patties though - http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/2... Though it's not quite as good as it was when I shot that photo, it's still pretty good.

I used to go get quick take-out then realized I didn't find the food very tasty. I prefer ordering from the restaurants on Broadview like Grand or Pearl Court. Simon's Wok has decent food but limited range since they don't use onions, garlic or real meat.
