Best cocktails + vegetarian friendly (downtown Mpls)

We are treating some dear friends to a night on the town tomorrow. One of our friends makes amazing cocktails in his own right and we are looking for a place to really inspire him. Here is the list I've come up with so far:

The Inn
La Belle Vie
Bradstreet
Monte Carlo

My concern with all of these options is whether or not there will be decent food choices as they are vegetarian. Any other suggestions, recommendations, or advice??

  1. You'll have no problem at LBV. Eat in the lounge. You can order off both the lounge menu and the main menu. They routinely serve vegetarians. The cocktails are superb.

Fabulous suggestion. I just called though and unfortunately they have a private party in the Lounge right when we'd need to be arriving. Bummer.

    2. I would say that although I have not been to the Monte Carlo, I asked my husband and he said "maybe you could get a baked potato?" to the question of whether it might be appropriate for vegetarians. If La Belle Vie is out due to time, then I would say that the Inn and Bradstreet are your best options (the lounge at La Belle Vie would have been my first choice for your request, but the others are fairly close behind).

I have been to both the Inn and Bradstreet for cocktails. I think both of them make excellent cocktails, but a little different in style. The Inn's cocktails are less flashy than Bradstreet's (which has fancy ice machines, etc), but both are quite good. I think both would have tasty, at least somewhat vegetarian friendly food. I personally like the food at The Inn better.

Thanks so much for your thoughts on The Inn and Bradstreet. I'd love to try Bradstreet, but it is hard for me to get over my general aversion to the Block E complex!

The Inn sounds like it may be our best bet at this point. We also love the cocktails at Jetset, if you get there around opening you get the space to yourself and some fantastic drinks, but no food to speak of.

You'll find scant vegetarian offerings at the Inn and Bradstreet, though as you noted, the cocktails are good. Cosmos may have you covered though, and there is a small lounge in the bar area of that restaurant (the Graves is not really part of Block E and you can't get from one to the other without leaving either building). Monte Carlo is crap.

Other possible options: Dancing Ganesha, Nick & Eddie, King & I, BANK maybe?

But my top recommendation (though not downtown...it's about as downtown as JetSet): Spoonriver. Great cocktails and definitely vegetarian friendly.

And I'm with you on JetSet....since all the guys that work there also seem to work at Moose & Sadies...I wish they'd just serve their food. But to be fair, the hunky, model-looking dudes that pose as my wife's eye-candy when we go to JetSet, do not appear to eat much.

      2. That's too bad about LBV! In my opinion, if you want inspiration for cocktails, Bradstreet is better than the Inn. I love the Inn but their cocktail list is no where near what Bradstreet offers. Unfortunately they don't have many vegetarian options.

        1. Thanks to everyone for their helpful reviews. We ended up at Bradstreet and it was perfect!
