Where to celebrate 50th birthday in SF

It's happening next month and I can't believe it... I need a beautiful, delicious restaurant a la the old Chez Michel, early Gary Danko - nothing too stuffy-I like a comfortable, professional, "we're so pleased you're here but we won't hover and fail to tell you the price of the champagne by the glass" vibe, not a Fleur de Lys kind of place, but it is, after all, an occasion. Where would you recommend? Probably just me and my husband, so we could splurge a bit.

        Yup.

Although if you have time for a second meal (and doesn't a 50th birthday warrant more than one great dinner?), Atelier Crenn.

      What about Chez Spencer?

Chez Spencer is fine, but not as celebratory as Acquerello or La Folie. Of those two, I prefer Acquerello. Wine service, table service and food all seemed better. Either place, though, would be a fine choice for a celebration.

I've been to all 3 recommended here. (La Folie, Chez Spencer, Acquarello).
All 3 are terrific, but for this occasion....
            La Folie is the winner.

I think Saison would suit the occasion and comfort levels well.

Bix, Garibaldi's or my personal fave for the descriptor above, Spruce.
