Where to find Agar Agar in Calgary

MaxineJ Apr 13, 2011 01:48 PM

I'm using a tiramisu recipe that calls for gelatin but I want to use a vegetarian substitute, I've heard Agar Agar can be used instead. Does anyone know where I can find this in Calgary?

+1. I definitely got them from T&T Supermarket before. The ones I bought are clear plastic bag in thread form.

Thanks guys. what form are these places selling it in i.e. powder, flakes, threads? And can I just directly substitute i for the gelatin?

i got powder, and I'm pretty sure it was at community natural foods.

it works slightly differently than gelatin, and the ratios are not quite the same so IME you can't just straight substitute one for the other. It will likely take some experimenting. my first efforts were either too stiff or too runny. I still haven't quite got the hang of it...

At T&T and other Asian markets the one I have found was powder as well.
You have to sprinkle carefully and spread it out, otherwise it will clump.
