Rick Bayless is Filming a La Querencia, Tijuana, Next Week!
Miguel Angel of La Querencia and Taller in Tijuana just told me that Rick Bayless will be filming an episode of his cooking show next week.
Miguel will be taking him to his family's farm. He mentioned the sheep and lambs, and I am sure there will be much more to see.

You can follow his exploits(?) here - http://fronterafiesta.com/
His film crew has been posting short videos of their out-takes.
GJ, have you tried La Querencia? If so, how was it. I've heard very mixed accounts that vary wildly from "it's a horrible rip-off" to "best place in town". Hard to decide if it's worth the border crossing time or not. Hve heard fairly positive things abotu Taller.

First off, Dining Diva, I love and admire your posts. Also, I also love and admire Miguel Angel, but my meal there yesterday was not transcendent.
Miguel Angel has a very clear vision of what he wants to serve. We have been customers since he opened his first restaurant in Rosarito, which is now called "La Querencia Campestre" and serves mostly as his prep kitchen.
His menu emphasizes his family history, with rabbit, venison and duck dishes, but there is also a focus on Asian influences; Sashimi La Querencia, Ostion Ls Querencisa, for example, but, in the case of my meal yesterday, they errored on being too heavy handed with salt..
When Miguel Angel sat down with us after our lunch, I was too chicken to complain about the over-salting.
He was not in the kitchen when our meal was prepared and I know he would have corrected the mistakes, instantly.

Sounds like you recommend it in spite of the occasional misstep? Trust me, the meal doesn't have to be perfect for me to enjoy it :-)

Yes, I highly recommend visiting La Querencia. I love the food, the decor (tin-topped tables, mounted stag heads and horns, the giant salt-water aquarium, family hunting party pictures) and the varied, well-chosen wine list.

Cool! Since things have begun to return to some degree of normalcy (whatever that really is <gg>) I am really hoping to make a couple of Baja trips this summer

GJ, RBs outtake posts on filming for the new season of Mexico:One Plate at a Time have finally reached Northern Baja. Episode 10 is part of the La Querencia filming - http://fronterafiesta.com/ . Northern Baja starts with episode 7 or 8 and I think episode 9 has some nice footage of the fish market in Ensenada
