Best picks near Spoleto?

cshamess Apr 13, 2011 04:21 AM

Hi Folks,

We will be staying for a week in Vallocchia, just outside Spoleto in mid-June. I have researched places in Spoleto and have several we will visit.

Anyone have any great reccs for outside of Sploeto? I've had one for Ristorante al Palazzaccio.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

http://www.latavernadelpescatore.com/, about 20 minutes north of Spoleto. If the weather's nice, be sure to sit outside alongside the brook.

Since you will be in the area for an entire week, I would suggest contacting the winery Caprai and seeing if you can do a cooking class with Salvatore Denaro. He used to run the restaurant Bacco Felice in Foligno, which has closed. He's now 'chef in residence' at Caprai, and great fun.

Charles, if you don't mind, which restaurants IN Spoleto have made your list? I'll be there in late May. We'll be using public transportation so I'm not sure how many dinners we'll have out-of-town, as we like to totter home on foot after dining.

You can eat quite well at Osteria del Matto. No website, but this review sums up the experience nicely: http://www.thestar.com/travel/article...

Thanks Ghiottone, Osteria del Matto was on my list already!

I'm looking forward to this place as I used to run a small cafe in Ontario and had a similar reputation for my front of house antics...

We are in Vallocchia for a week so will dine in Spoleto and the surrounding countryside. These are the picks for Spoleto proper I have gleaned from Chow and the owner of the house we are renting:

              Il Capanno
              Località Torrecola,6, Spoleto,

Apollinare, via St Agata 0743 223 256 ( just off Piazza della Liberta)

Ristorante Cantina de Corvi, Piazzetta SS Giovvanni e Paola 0743 44475

Osteria del Matto in Piazza del Mercato

              Il Tartufo-Spoleto

Tempio del gusto in Via arco di druso

              Have fun!

A review was just posted yesterday for Locanda Rovicciano near Castel Ritaldi which is near Spoleto. We will be in the area in June and it was recommended to me by someone who lives locally.
