Gambero Rosso Restaurant Guide

Does anyone know where I could find the 2011 Gambero Rosso Restaurant Guide -- in New York or London?

  1. Maybe at Eataly in New York? There is an app for iPhone of it, not the easiest to use, but neither is the book, and it takes up less room.

Off topic: any thoughts about Eataly?

We walked into the NY Eataly the over evening thinking we might have dinner there but walked back out again without eating or buying a thing., Too big, too noisy and crowded - small tables crowded together, a young crowd. The food MIGHT have been good but we wouldnt have enjoyed eating it. give us a 12 table trattoria any day. there was one semi-walled off white tablecloth area .

The place intrigues me. The early days were pure chaos. Now? Slightly less chaotic but nowhere near as bumpy. The roof-top beer garden comes on-line next month. I'll do some additional reconnaissance and report back

Intimacy in a 50,000-square-foot food court (think Harrods) may be a stretch.

That was exactly my feeling when we went to check it out last November. We were on our way to a friend's for lunch, so we weren't going to eat anyway, but it would have made me nervous. Franco reacted better to it than I did.

I didn't see any @ Eataly.. but then again it has been a while since my last visit. I did however, pick up some Slowfood guides (mine was on dolci) from there.

As for the shrimp guide, I paid the int'l shipping and bought online.

        3. Most of it is online (in Italian) for free.

Amazon UK sells the book (also in Italian) at an elevated price; Amazon Italia sells it at a reduced price, but you have to pay international shipping.

          1. Go to Rizzoli on 57th. between 5th. and 6th. north side of the street

            1. We've moved this thread from the Italy board to Manhattan because of the poster's original query, and the ensuing discussion about Eataly. We would ask that the poster post on the U.K./Ireland board to ask where to buy the guide in London.

              Thanks.

Thanks for all the help. I actually beat Zerlina to the punch and found the guide on Amazon.it. As noted, they book itself was cheap but they made it up on the shipping, which I decided to pay. Our trip is not until October, so I have six months to plan and carefully translate the Italian text.
